I had two amazing birth experiences with Sunshine Mama Doula Care. During our first consultation, Melissa reassured me that she was there to support and be available to me and my husband during the pregnancy and birth. We had a strong support system but having Melissa by our side made the experience amazing. She knew how to guide me through contractions and bring relief using cold towels, essential oils, and a calming voice. She even instructed the nurses to bring ice water to dip towels in. I would have never thought of that at that moment and neither did the nurses. After the first birth, I knew there was no way to have another baby without her.

When I had my first child I did not know what to expect. That was in 2008. Sure, I had a team of medical personnel and was at Children's, a top notch facility but throughout the birthing experience and after I felt highly mis-informed. In 2016 I became pregnant again and from the very beginning I enlisted the support of this wonderful woman. When you know better...you do better, even if in this case doing better was simply surrounding myself with a professional, compassionate person whom was so much more knowledgable than I. She encouraged me to weigh options that I did not even know were available to me before and helped me in finding them and incorporating them into my personal pregnancy/birthing plan. EVERYTHING, and I mean everything Melissa does is based on YOUR willingness, and desires regarding the birthing process. She is receptive to feedback, and non-judgmental while simultaneously provides an educated and steadfast directive based on your personal wishes as the mother. Be it something as simple as reminding you to breath, or standing up and advocating for you in the delivery room when you may not be able to effectively communicate your birthing wishes, Melissa is heaven sent and someone I could not imagine going through this journey again without.

Melissa has been my doula for two of my pregnancies and I wouldn't have had it any other way. Both were natural births. The first birth was at a birth center in the water, second was at home. She is so patient, caring, loving and knowledgeable on what she does. Once I told her my birth plan she made sure along side my husband that things were how I wanted them to be. She also knew what to do to help manage pain without me even saying anything. She helped me bring my babies into the world and that is a memory I would never forget. I tell people you have to have the right team of people and she is definitely always on my list.

Working with Melissa has been absolutely fabulous. We clicked from day 1! I've been blessed to have Melissa during pregnancy and after birth. She's always available to give advice and provide research-based answers, whenever I had questions. Towards the end of my pregnancy, I experienced an issue that a shifted my birth plan; Melissa was there every step of the way, providing an assortment of tools to ensure I was empowered at the time of birth. One of those tools being Spinning Babies, which definitely had a major part in my labor and delivery process!! I'm thankful Melissa educated me and my husband prior to delivery!! Since giving birth, Melissa has  continued been a gem! She has provided both in personal and virtual assistance, which has really helped with readjusting since having Luna! Melissa is knowledgeable, compassionate, loving and passionate! She's continued to step outside of herself to ensure I'm supported, comfortable, and confident through each phase of this journey! I'd highly recommend her, and love having her as a part of my village!
