I wholeheartedly recommend our amazing postpartum nanny, Auntie Wang Yanping! Being able to meet Auntie Wang with my second baby was truly a blessing for our whole family. I’m a second-time mom, and because I had a very bad experience during my first postpartum confinement, I was much more cautious than most people when looking for a postpartum nanny this time.
With my first baby, I had no experience, and the postpartum nanny we hired then was not very responsible. I was in terrible shape after giving birth: I had a fever, developed hemorrhoids, felt very depressed, and never established breastfeeding well. After that experience, I even thought postpartum confinement was probably just something that painful. So when I became pregnant with my second baby, one of my biggest worries was whether I could find someone truly reliable and professional—someone I could completely trust with my baby.
Auntie Wang was strongly recommended by a close friend I trust who had personally hired her. It was because of my friend’s firsthand experience that I finally felt comfortable booking her. Now that my confinement period is over, all I can say is: thank goodness I chose Auntie Wang. My two confinement experiences were truly worlds apart.
1. She is extremely professional with the baby and made me feel very secure. This is what I most want to praise Auntie Wang for. Although I’m a second-time mom, honestly, I had forgotten almost all the details of newborn care. Auntie Wang was very attentive in caring for the baby. She carefully observed the baby’s feeding amount, burping, gas, bowel movements and urination, baths, umbilical-cord care, sleep, and daily condition.
She did not simply “help take care of the baby”; she truly adjusted her care according to the baby’s condition each day. When the baby cried, she did not just pick the baby up to soothe them. She would figure out whether the baby was hungry, sleepy, gassy, or needed comfort. Many times, before we had even realized what was going on, she already knew what the baby needed. What impressed me most was the baby’s routine. While Auntie Wang was here, the baby’s feeding and sleep gradually became more regular. She was not the type to hold the baby constantly just to keep the baby from crying; instead, she patiently helped the baby develop good sleep habits. After Auntie Wang finished her placement, I had already prepared myself to start staying up late again, but the baby actually started sleeping through the night right away! At that moment, I truly felt that what Auntie Wang left us was not only more than a month of help, but also a set of good habits that we can continue ourselves in the future.
2. The care she gave me as a mother was what made me understand for the first time what it feels like to truly have a good confinement period.
Breastfeeding did not go well at all with my first baby, so before giving birth to my second, I did not have much confidence about breastfeeding. But this time, Auntie Wang was very patient in helping me from the start. Based on my situation, she helped me adjust my nursing and pumping schedule. She also massaged me and helped clear milk ducts, checked for lumps, and reminded me when I should rest and when I should pump. The result was that even I did not expect breastfeeding to go so smoothly this time.
With my first baby, I had almost no breast milk. With my second, I eventually had enough milk every day to store bag after bag, and the freezer gradually filled with frozen milk. For a mother who experienced the frustration of breastfeeding with her first baby, this feeling is really hard to describe. Of course, I know everyone’s body is different, but for me, the help and confidence Auntie Wang gave me during that initial period were truly very important. More importantly, because Auntie Wang cared for the baby at night, I was finally able to truly rest.
3. She has very high emotional intelligence and is genuinely very funny.
She is not the kind of postpartum nanny who makes the atmosphere at home tense and requires the employer to take care of her emotions in return. On the contrary, she communicates especially well, has high emotional intelligence, and knows when to give a mother space. She is also very humorous. During my entire confinement period, she often made me laugh out loud 😂 The atmosphere at home was relaxed every day.
After going through my first experience, I learned how important a postpartum mother’s emotions are. The personality, emotional stability, and sense of boundaries of someone living under the same roof with you 24 hours a day are no less important than professional ability. Auntie Wang made me feel especially comfortable in this regard.
She would offer suggestions, but she would not force you to follow her way; when we had ideas of our own, she listened and discussed with us the approach that best suited the baby and our family. Gradually, it truly stopped feeling like “there is a postpartum nanny living in our home” and instead felt like our family had gained a particularly reliable, capable, and fun elder.
4. Her cooking also deserves special praise. Auntie Wang’s cooking is truly delicious, and she knows how to adjust it for different stages after childbirth. It was not the same so-called confinement meals every day; she really found ways to make different dishes for me. She could make soups, meat, vegetables, noodles, and small snacks, and she took my tastes into consideration. The happiest thing was that I basically never had to think about “what should I eat today?” Every mealtime, there was hot food waiting for me, and whenever I was hungry, there was always something to eat. For a mother who has just given birth and needs to breastfeed and pump every day, this feeling of being cared for was truly wonderful.
Looking back now, one of the biggest differences between my first and second baby was truly that this time I met a reliable postpartum nanny. With my first baby, I always felt that confinement was something to simply “get through.” With my second, I discovered for the first time that confinement could truly be a time when a mother is cared for, understood, able to recover well, and happily spend time with her baby. After Auntie Wang completed her placement, our whole family was very reluctant to say goodbye. Seeing the family photo we took together at the end, I suddenly realized that this period had really come to an end. Thank you, Auntie Wang, for taking such good care of me and my baby during this time, and for bringing so much laughter to our family. If any of my closest friends ask whom they should hire as a postpartum nanny in the future, I will recommend Auntie Wang without hesitation.
Meeting Auntie Wang Yanping with my second baby was truly a blessing for our whole family. ❤️
